The University of Canberra in collaboration with the Australian Institute of Architects (ACT Chapter), Canberra Modern & the ACT Heritage Library present Spectres of Architecture in Canberra as part of the Canberra & Region Heritage Festival (13-28 April 2024).
This exhibition brings to life the ghosts of Canberra’s twentieth-century architectural legacy. From extensive archival research, and through analogue and digital methods, it showcases original work that integrates photography, drawings, models, and projection, overlaying the past and present.
By showcasing examples of Canberra’s lost architectural heritage, this installation also raises awareness around other exemplary projects at risk of vanishing into history.
The project will also include an interactive map, which will continue to be populated. We would love your input - as expert members of the local, national and international community.
Tell us about your favourite piece of Canberra’s lost architecture, or a place you think is at risk of loss.
Share your memories, anecdotes and pictures to enhance the collective knowledge and legacy of this important aspect of Canberra’s history - and to help us advocate for a better future.
